ABOUT THE ROLE

I am a 26-year-old female with complex care needs such as Erb-Duchenne, Epilepsy, Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, autism, a chromosome deletion, severe cognitive impairments, scoliosis and I require the use of a wheelchair.

I am non-verbal and communicate with others by staring and/or reaching for objects and toys or banging my feet. With my epilepsy, it is currently managed by medication, and I have rescue medication available if required; however, if I am unwell, there may a change in frequency of seizures. I have been deemed to lack capacity, so my family are able to make decisions that are in my best interest. I live at home with my parents and my sister is currently my only personal assistant who does a brilliant job with supporting me and understanding my needs. I come from an incredibly loving family who have done their absolute best to ensure that I am able to access the community.

Having formal care is completely new to my family and I but we have adjusted well to the new process. My conditions mean that I require support with all aspects of my daily living and suitable candidate will need to be able to support me with various tasks throughout the day, these include but are not limited to personal care, feeding, administering of medication, bedtime routine and going on daily walks.

It will be 1:1 care; however, there will be occasions where it will be 2:1 care.

ABOUT YOU

As this is new to our family we need someone who can be flexible, whilst we figure out the best shift patterns.

We do; however, think It is really important that we find the right person/people who can connect with me well and into our family, therefore, we will consider different work patterns that also suit you.

Please state when applying what hours, you would prefer and we will consider how this can work for us all.At present, we have 40 hours for care to cover so we want to ensure that we have the best people for the role.

We want someone who is kind, reliable, adaptive and has a relaxed and friendly approach. We would love someone who loves similar activities to myself such as swimming and outdoor activities as you will be supporting me with these activities.

Ideally, we want someone who has experience with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Epilepsy; however, training will be provided.

Car drivers with a full, clean driving license are not essential but preferred, and candidates must meet the requirements for motor insurance purposes.

The candidate must also be a non-smoker and must like dogs as there are often times where my sister’s dogs in the property.
