ABOUT THE ROLE

I am a 53-year-old lady who lives in Hammersmith & Fulham in London with my Mum but I will be moving to my own flat. I am a leading self-advocate, disability activist and consultant who also works alongside individuals with learning disabilities to support them to lead fulfilling lives.

I have a network of friends and colleagues around the country who are important to me. I am also the co-author of the Keys to Citizenship (with my friend Simon Duffy) and as part of this I spend time travelling both in the UK and overseas, speaking to people about the book. It is important to me to be able to live my life like anyone else and to live as independently as I can.

I want to be able to have control over my own life and be able to make my own mistakes so that I can learn from them. I am an avid supporter of Arsenal football club and attend home games as I am a season ticket holder. I use a wheelchair but can stand for short periods of time and am working with a personal trainer to strengthen the muscles in my legs.

Do you want to help someone to have a real life?

I am looking for someone who loves to travel and meet new people and who can support me in my role as a trainer and presenter as well as supporting me day to day to lead an independent life.

On a day-to-day basis, I require 2:1 support in the mornings to help me to get up and ready for the day and in the evenings.

I require 1:1 support with other personal tasks during the day. It is important to me that I am given time to try and do things for myself and will ask for help if I am finding something difficult. I will also require support with domestic tasks such as cleaning, washing and ironing and may also require help with shopping.

There will also be times where I require support with my role as a trainer and mentor that will involve travel, meeting new people and supporting me with presentation so having a good head for business and good IT skills would be advantageous.
