ABOUT THE ROLE
I am a lady in my 50’s who has a diagnosis of Huntington’s disease and am non-verbal. I live in my home with my husband and family dog, and I have a fantastic personal assistant who has worked with me for many years who understands my needs and wishes. My condition means that I require support with all aspects of my daily living and suitable candidates will need to be able to support me with various tasks throughout the day, these include but are not limited to personal care, continence care, administering of medication, basic household tasks and nutrition and hydration. I require support with personal care and toileting. Some of the tasks will include dressing and application of eczema creams to my arms and neck. Personal appearance is important to me, so my PA will need to ensure this is completed. I eat a vegetarian diet, I can eat finger food, and all other meals will need to be mashed and spoon fed to me, this may take a while to manage risk of food aspiration. The same applies to drinking. I am also fully compliant during meals but require supervision.
ABOUT YOU
I am looking for someone who understands my medical problems and can also provide emotional support. I am a quiet and calm person who would like someone to offer companionship whilst they look after my day to day and medical tasks. I enjoy watching TV, and interacting with me on all aspects of social life is important, whilst I am mobile, I will require support whilst walking to avoid falls. I am more than happy to use a wheelchair to go for a walk etc. You will need to be enthusiastic and inspiring to bring a sense of energy into my life. You must also be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and integrity and respect my home. Being fine with dogs is a must as he is an integral part of the family. Experience is advantageous but not compulsory as all training will be provided. The ideal person will live local or ideally have access to a car due to remote location and public transport not being available around the shift times.
