The first week of April is dedicated to raising awareness for autism. Autism affects 1 in 100 people, which means there are around 700,000 adults and children with autism across the UK. 70% of these people do not feel like that are getting the help they need in their daily lives. Due to the fact it is a largely hidden disability, autism often struggles to get the recognition it deserves.


Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions, often characterised by challenges to social skills, repetitive behaviour, speech and nonverbal communication. People with autism all share certain difficulties, being autistic will affect them in different ways. Some people with autism also have learning difficulties, mental health issues and other medical conditions, meaning some people require more support than others.
