Who We Are

Solo Support Services is an alternative to a domiciliary care agency and we provide a range of services for individuals who have a budget for care and support and require assistance to live independently at home. Support can be for personal care, household chores, mobility or more complex health related conditions and we work with you to find your own Personal Assistant (PA) or team of Personal Assistants (PAs) which can include family members. You will have flexible support allowing you to live safely and comfortably at home assisted by a team of people who you know and trust. Your PAs can also help you get out and about to pursue hobbies and interests, be with you on holiday or when visiting friends and family.

Helen Brown

Helen Brown

Business Manager

I have a degree in Communication Studies and worked in customer service and purchasing before joining my friend Nicola at Solo in 2012. My job is very varied, I work with colleagues at all levels, as well as clients and providers, so no two days are the same which makes it extremely enjoyable. I have two sport crazy sons who keep me busy outside of work and I also enjoy keeping fit: I have completed two marathons as well as several half marathons and am always looking for my next running challenge.

I joined Solo Support Services as a Client Relations Manager in 2012 and am now the Operations Manager, supporting our client relations teams. I have a lead role in all areas of organisation quality. Away from work, I keep active with running, mountain biking and rock climbing. I also enjoy cooking and baking and would love to be on the Great British Bake Off!

Registered Manager

I joined Solo Support Services in 2013, as a Client Relations Manager. Having heard about the uniqueness of NHS Personal Health Budgets, I instantly knew this was an area in which I wanted to be involved. I work at the heart of the organisation and have a strong passion and desire to deliver high quality, person centred care for all. My aim is to promote choice, involvement and wellbeing and to empower the individuals we work with. I know I have the vision and mind set to make a difference to other people’s lives through the personalisation agenda and I thoroughly enjoy my role, which I find immensely rewarding. I live in Nottinghamshire with my family. I enjoy going out for walks, spending time learning yoga and practising mindfulness.

Development Manager

I grew up and was educated in South Africa, graduating with a B Nursing degree from the University of Witwatersrand. I enjoy reading around the topics of health and social care in both fiction and non-fiction books. Keeping abreast of the reforms in the personalisation agenda ensures that I remain focused on developing the services we provide. A key part of my job, which I especially enjoy, is meeting new clients and discussing how to put the personalisation agenda in to practise in their lives. I like socialising with my family and friends, and am interested in travel, particularly to the Greek Isles. I enjoy keeping fit, mentally and physically, attending the gym and am starting to learn the art of meditation.

Payroll Manager

In 2013, my friend, Nicola Darby, asked me if I would be interested to take on a part-time payroll position. The timing was opportune for me and in January 2014 I took on the role of providing payroll support within the management of the Personal Health Budgets for individuals who had chosen self-directed support. The growth of Solo has been rapid and each year the payroll team expands so we can manage the increasing volume of payrolls which we administer for both Third Party and Direct Payment clients. What a journey I have been on with Solo and every year I continue to be delighted by its growth and the difference we make to the lives of our clients.

Senior CRM

I joined Solo in April 2013 having worked as an Independent Mental Health Advocate for 5 years. Originally, I was a Client Manager for those in receipt of a Direct Payment but now support clients receiving a Personal Health Budget through our Third-Party arrangement. Ensuring clients have choice and control over the way their care is planned and delivered is especially rewarding. Knowing that Solo can help individuals and their families to lead the lives they want to is why I am still passionate about Solo and very much want to stay part of the Solo team.

I joined Solo in January 2017 having worked in business management, health, education and social care. I enjoy being part of a team with a person-centred approach. We work collaboratively to ensure exceptional standards. I have particular responsibility to ensure that the people we support are treated with dignity and respect. I think partnership-working and listening is vital to truly understand what is important to people. Outside of work I enjoy dancing and love animals. I am also a trustee for the National Dignity Council.

CRM Team Leader

I began my journey with Solo in June 2017 as a Client Relations Manager. I had previously worked in traditional domiciliary care organisations and had begun to lose focus on why I had started my career in care. Being at Solo has reminded me that I am passionate about supporting people to achieve the best possible outcomes from their care and support. Solo allows individuals to have as much choice and control as possible and allows them to decide who they want to support them.

I had worked in the health and social care sector for 10 years in both small and large companies but when I joined Solo in 2017 it was like a breath of fresh air. I realised I could deliver choice and control to clients for essential aspects of their lives, including who supported them and making the support work to meet their needs. My work with Solo has also created opportunities for my own personal achievements and goals to be met and makes my position as a Client Relations Manager a pleasure.

Being a Client Relations Manager at Solo enables me to support clients and their families, friends and employees. I feel very humble knowing I am able to assist clients and families through difficult times in their lives even if it is just s a quick phone call and for me to be that friendly voice and listening ear. Being able to build positive relationships with clients and families and giving them as much control over their own care as possible is beneficial to clients’ health and wellbeing and ensures the best outcomes. A disability or illness should never define a person, who they are defines them. We face challenges and obstacles together at Solo and I am proud to be part of a positive can-do organisation.

I have worked in health and social care for many years and am passionate about the sector. I joined Solo in 2019 recognising that the approach to client support was very refreshing and reflected the way I wanted to work. Solo believes in person-centred care. Each CRM works with a client recognising them as an individual with very specific needs and aspirations, the employees (PAs) appointed are for an individual client and there is never a feeling that one size fits all, it is always about finding solutions and going the extra mile. We have a superb Head Office team ensuring clients and their teams get the quality service and support they deserve.

I was overjoyed to be offered the role at Solo, after almost 18 years of experience in the health and social care sector, across different organisations, Solo’s ethos and approach really struck a chord with me. Particularly as I worked as a personal assistant to both of my grandparents, a number of years ago, I felt having that experience would mean I could really understand the amazing work that is achieved by Solo every day and hopefully add to this! In my spare time I enjoy being a taxi service/snack provider to my two active and energetic little girls! I also love outdoors so, when my girls allow it, you can find me doing pretty much any activity that gets me out of the house and breathing some fresh air!

Working as part of a team is rewarding and everyone here is very friendly, caring and approachable. I have two boys at school and enjoy been active and meeting friends and trying new things.

Finance Administrator

I started working for Solo in 2017 and it was the best thing that has happened to me. I was seeking a new job with a more positive purpose and I liked the fact it involved helping and caring for people. Solo’s core value is freedom of choice and Solo gives people who need care that choice so that they can retain their independence and be involved in deciding who and what care is best for them. We offer various payroll services; this gives clients as much or little control as they wish. If we hold the funds, then each client is given their own individual bank account giving transparency which is really important. To know I'm part of a team who help people in achieving a better quality of life is very satisfying and rewarding.

When I returned from working abroad in early 2018, it was a priority for me to work somewhere that made a significant difference to others and somewhere where I could develop a long-term career. Whilst working for Solo, I have been able to build positive relationships with our clients as well as discover my own strengths and weaknesses within my role. This has been the most rewarding and valuable part of my job. Whilst working at Solo I am also studying for my Accountancy Technician qualifications and by working within the finance department I am able to put my college training into action.
